Define You, Define Me
Follow your heart,
They say,
Follow the way it beats,
Where it leads,
Listen to it pump,
That should be sign enough,
Of which way to go,
What path to follow,
Does the pump dictate,
What route you take?
The flow of blood,
Telling you what is bad and good?
I don’t follow my heart,
The fist in my chest,
Doesn’t tell me when to do my part,
I follow the dreams,
Broken or whole,
They speak to my soul,
Telling tales of joy,
Which I seek to employ,
Treading my own path,
Through a devasted world,
Not following the heart,
Following the hopes of a girl,
Me,
Reflected in reality,
I tread,
Hair of red,
Skin of white,
Searching,
Seeking,
Looking for my niche,
But perhaps,
It I have found,
Destined to roam around?
Writing,
Wondering,
If I am in my place?
Or if,
I am just another seeking face,
Hidden by the other,
Obscured by the seekers,
Hearts a compass in their hand,
Mine caged,
Have I chosen right?
Have I blown out the leading light?
So, I seek,
Asking myself,
‘How do I define me?’
