Defining Reality

Broken.

This is what we are; our unity cut in two,

and I am left in the middle, scrabbling for a rope to hold

on when, in reality, only threads hold my existence.

Threads of gray, black, and white destitute of color, of life.

Destitute.

That is what we have become.

Impoverished of love.

Weakened, beaten, and torn from grief.

In want of a beauty and light that when captured

fades.

Forced into a fatal flight,

never knowing, understanding where to stand.

Twisted and forced to hobble through life.

Hobbled. Twisted.

That is what we made.

Yet, we walk on.

1 step an added weight
1 step a load of pain.

Few words: a grim set line.

Lost sentences forever irrational numbers.

Escape is where we fly.

Beautiful, delicious, delirious escape.

Smells of home baked break,

fresh, long, green grass blowing in waves.

Birds mourned, forgotten, singing

in pink, white, and lavender blossoming trees.

Laughter echoing off mountian tops.

Smiles lighting crooked roads.

Tales of adventure and romance

coloring the landscape.

Beauty seen and felt by all.

Hope burgeoning in our hearts.

Relief written in eyes and hands.

Rest and peace scribbled across eyelids.

Bellies full of sweet harmony.

Understanding reflected in one another's eyes.

Rockslides of trials shrunk to pebbles.

Friends always friends.

Love untinged, more prized than gold.

Wake up to a vanished world.

Put aside that day and make this ours.

Imagine the world on healthy legs, never crutches.

Wonder at our reflections that cease to have flaws.

Stitch up the holes ripping us apart.

Paint over the grim frowns and tears.

Inlay jewels on each creature.

Remind us of what we are.

Draw our trials into stairs,

stairs that beget destiny and freedom.

Start the blueprint.

Stack the bricks that weigh us down

and build each a marble palace.

String together lights of the rainbow.

Infuse rays of sun that pierce our bones.

Burn the thatched roofs that drip and mold.

Blow smoke into mist,

mist that holds dreams, hugs our wishes,

and matches the heart's eternal beat.

Trace the patterns that fill our paper.

Walk down that glittering path.

Jump across the gaping hole.

The one we all know. The one that haunts.

My world is no longer torn.

My reality blanket holds fast my peace.

Love has become my stronghold.

1 step leads me to dreams.

1 step lifts me up higher, higher.

Lost sentences hail me on the wind;

find me, carrying me.

Fatal flight: freedom flight.

My escape shapes my world.

My words construct the heavens,

the earth, seas, people, creatures.

Because my thoughts are my words,

and my words define my reality.

A reality that each soul may seize.
