Delusions

I was staring at the reflection of the sun in the lake

Thinking it was the sky

Wondering why

The clouds all shook like they were nervous

The sky is the limit

So I went swimming in it

Thinking, alright, this is the happiest I'm ever going to be

That's when I heard a bird screech

It danced pass me and dove behind the mountain of a ripple

When it appeared again it was at the edge of the sky

Stop! I yelled

Reaching a desperate arm out to save it

But it was too late

I sobbed miserably

That's when I heard a bird screech

Again the very same screech

I looked down confused

Or was that up?

And saw the image of the sun in a lighter sky

I reached a cautious finger towards it

But even with both arms outstretched

And standing on my tip-toes I could not feel a thing

The clouds there seemed so stable

And the sun stopped its ceaseless winking

I saw the bird

Playing amongst the wind currents

A stringless kite

And that's how I knew I'd found heaven

Because heaven is freedom

And heaven is always just past the tips of your fingers
