Dementia

 Dear Grampa,

I see you, but I’m not sure you see me.

I hear you, but I’m not sure you hear me.

Although you have dementia, I still know you are as strong as the sea!

If I could spend just one more day hiking through the woods with you, I would tell you how grateful I am.

I’m grateful for the love of the forest and the sea you instilled in me!

I am grateful for the days you let me use your walking stick because I thought it was ”cool”, even though you really needed it.

I always looked forward to the bedtime stories you would tell me about the adventures of a boy named “Bert”.

I am grateful for the love, sacrifice and life lessons you have taught me. I want to tell you I appreciate everything! And, I know you will appreciate that I too, will someday teach my own kids, the life lessons and values you have taught me through example.

I know you can see me!

I know you can hear me!

I’m want to tell you everything and I want you to know it is me!
