Demon in the Mirror

Layers of makeup cloud your skin,

Molding your features

Into your mind's beauty.

Your hand trembles,

Grasping a tube of concealer.

Your eyes water,

When your perfection isn't reached.

My fingers itch to hand you a tissue--

Not for your tears--

But to reveal your natural beauty

That you used to love.

Your soul,

Infested by a depression

That devastates your self-confidence

Like a demon inhabiting a helpless body.

I wish I could tear down that mirror

That brings tears to your eyes

And slay every dragon

That holds you captive.

The raging fire that billows from their throats

Won't bother me,

As long as I am blessed

To see a sincere smile brighten your face,

As it did so many times

When we were carefree children,

Before you were possessed.
