Demons
Dear Depression,
Rumor has it
You only show your face at night,
But I know the truth.
You like to stalk me in the morning
As well as the afternoon.
When evening comes around,
I hope for you to have gone missing,
But without fail
You're always right behind me.
You love to whisper in my ear
And tell me that I'm nothing without you.
I sit there and I let you degrade me
Because I know you're the only one
That will ever tell me the truth.
Everyone I know says
I'm better off without you,
But why would I get rid of the only thing
That knows me better than I do?
I let you take control.
I allow myself to succumb to you
Letting you take the reigns.
You order me to stay in bed,
Knowing that I have errands to run
And work to do.
I do as I'm told
Because as much as I don't want to believe it,
You own me.
You are like a rope
And with every passing moment
It seems to get tighter around my neck.
You are undeniably suffocating
And you know the power you have over me.
I didn't ask for this.
I didn't ask for you.
I want to be free.
Please, I'm begging you to let me go.
Sincerely,
C
