The Demons at Night
Where are you at two in the morning?
Are you lying in your bed, dreaming,
Or still awake, fighting demons?
It seems that every night they rise within me,
And ravage my mind, shredding me completely.
"You're not good enough, you're not thin enough.
You're not pretty enough, you're not smart enough.
Your dad doesn't love you, no one will ever love you"
The demons scream at me.
I pick up myself and fight them,
I reassure myself that my life is fine the way it is,
That I will make it through the night and then the year.
And I did, and I am, and I will.
I'm not the best, but boy am I good.
I'm not the thinnest, but I'm still lovely.
I'm not the prettiest, but my eyes sure shine.
I'm not the smartest, but I am not dumb.
My dad rarely sees me, but I'm holding up just fine.
I'm not loved by many, but those who love me really do.
And I fight the demons off until they're lurking in the shadows,
And I stand the victor of this battle.
I know there will be more demons,
But I'm strong enough to handle them all,
Because this life isn't all that bad.
