The Depart
I must go soon, my love,
And though I know you may not understand,
Please know that I am not doing this out of unlove
But out of knowledge that I can not provide what you demand
For you desire that I love you not out of need but out of warmth
And because I can not love you like that, I must go forth.
And though I know you may not understand
Why I can stay with you no longer,
Still, I must take a stand
And through your absence, I will become stronger,
For as long as you are in my life,
I know that I will be nothing more than your wife.
Please know that I am not doing this out of unlove
But because I must learn to love myself
And not just be someone of
Another who will always treat me like a trophy to put on a shelf,
And though I know you think you love me, and you try to,
I also know that no matter how kind you shall be to me, I will always be an object to you.
But out of knowledge that I can not provide what you demand
And not out of spite or malice,
I leave you, returning your ring and
Attempting to be callous;
No matter how hard it may be,
I must leave you to be free.
For you desire that I love you not out of need but of warmth,
But though we try, I know it shall not be so,
And as I lie near my new hearth,
I think about what I could have done to show
That we were not meant to be
If for you, a sacrificial love is key.
And because I can not love you like that, I must go forth
And wander into a world that I can make my own,
And when I decided to head up north
So that I could finally stand alone,
But still, I hope you know
That because of you, alone I was able to go.
