Departure

She says it’s for the best if nothing less,

And gracefully departs,

Not to witness his imminent restlessness.

His thoughts turn complex, like a game of chess

As he tries to recollect himself, not knowing where to start,

Wallowing in his disbelief and sudden stress.

I could’ve sworn she was an actress,

Who was simply rehearsing her hardest part.

But her tears showed her past, too painful to regress.

With her went the lakeside’s freshness,

The world lost its standard pace, and so did his heart,

As he clutched it, holding on to his breath, or any signs of happiness.

Afterwards, he only remembers a summer dress,

A simple yet elegant work of art.

But forgets it all as teardrops land down on his chest,

Thinking on her last words, “God Bless”
