Depression is
Have you ever walk in a crowded room & still felt lonely
You ever express how you feel
& they tell you that you be okay
Anxiety is real
Depression is what I feel
I don’t even know me
They told me turn my thoughts off
Like it’s some kind of light switch
They told me to pray
Doctor prescribed me some pills
This pain still won’t go away
I break down when know one around
Wishing I can cash dis pain away
So I roll one
Put all my thoughts in a bunt
N just pray depression don’t take me out
You don’t even know me
Have you ever sat in front of a therapist
& still didn’t feel heard
Depression is how I feel
They keep coming up with all these different type of disorders
Putting me on kind of meds
I feel like I’m losing my mind in most silence way ever
You don’t even know me
Did you take the time out
To hear me
Listen to me
Don’t listen to respond
Listen to understand
Depression is how I feel

Your Poem's Voice
Deeply personal mental health struggle; highly autobiographical and concrete.
Dense accumulation of experiences, treatments, and emotional states throughout.
Overwhelmingly negative; despair, isolation, hopelessness dominate throughout.
Urgent, cascading questions and fragmented declarations create restless intensity.
Approximately 40-50 lines; extended meditation on depression.
Some figurative moments (light switch, cashing pain away) but mostly declarative.
Pure lyric internal voice; direct first-person confessional throughout.
