Depression

I’m sorry that I can’t express my sadness in flowery words,
that will make you sway and swoon and pity the fool.
But this is not simply sadness, this does not come and go;
this is loyal to me.
It lingers on the shoreline and as darkness falls,
it creeps up and kisses my hollowed cheeks; running down my neck,
the crevices of my bones, pooling in despair - resting,
before slinking away.
You can retreat into the safety of a nearby cave
but the storm picks up, and the seas anger again.
