Depression and I

Depression and I are like two best friends

Talking back and forth until the constant

Chatter begins to blur into a single hum

A single adventure filled with insecurity and doubt

Doubt that we’ll ever change and

Doubt that life wants us here

Depression and I are like peanut butter and jelly

Forever put together until we begin to blur into a single being

A single entity slowly beginning to fall apart

Forcing us to hide how we really feel

To hide our heart

Depression and I are like a master and its puppy

A constant disaster waiting to erupt

A single possibility of failure

Failure to thrive that is,

Well, a want to die that is

Depression and I are like lovers

Forever tangled together in this mess of a life

Strife driven from the single heartbreak it brings

The single kind of heartbreak that causes a level of brokenness no words can fix

So when you ask me why I’m so shattered

I just want you to know, that depression and I have a complicated relationship

Simply making it so

Hi! I'm currently a senior in high school and like to write spoken word poetry. Hope you enjoy some of my work and I appreciate any feedback you may have. I'm fairly new to this and have only written a handful of poems that I haven't been able to perform yet.
