Derivative of Hope

Is there really a single thing that I must hold dear?

Do I truly have something that I can’t live without?

My ideals, my relationships, or my material items.

Honestly, I don’t know.

For the past few months, I’ve come to a realization.

The reason no specific object, person, or idea come to mind.

From the lips of my aunt,

“Be careful not to get too attached.”

Throughout life, our hearts attach strings to a multitude of articles.

People, objects, conceptions.

I for one, don’t know what I should keep close.

Unless our personal desires count.

I once heard that “wishes are eternal”.

I wish for peace, I wish for love and laughs.

I hope that the world we live in,

becomes a place of equal opportunity for all.

Although this wish is quite large,

It is something that has opened my eyes.

All the missed opportunities I’ve had,

All the things that I could have been.

I planned to use my future as a threshold,

For others to use my success as a platform to achieve theirs.

To have everyone sit at my table,

And eat lovely meals alongside me.

To be stranded on an island,

Would probably be one of the worst events in my life.

To only hold onto hope, a hope placed in the whole of humanity.

Is very risky, indeed.
