Desk Mate

(poems go here) Desk Mate Standing there outside my classroom, The teacher announces to pick someone, Someone to be your desk mate, With whom you’ll have no fun, Someone with whom you’ll get along with, And yet never talk to at all, I glance around and spot a girl, Which to whom I call, “Would you like to be my desk mate?” She quietly nods her assent, The girl is sweet and round, Her face is bright and content, The girl has large candy-apple cheeks, She’s blonde with bright blue eyes, To my shock I find she’s not quiet at all, And her hugs are just the right size That very same day we are howling with laughter, And torturing the poor boy between us, Our teacher is nagging and scolding, She’s putting up such a fuss I now see my desk mate every day, We’re as wicked as can be, For six years we’ve not had a fight, We fill each other with glee, My fourth-grade desk mate is my best friend, I would never turn my back on her, Nothing could, or would ever change that, It doesn’t matter what may occur, I love her with all my heart and soul, We know we’ll be friends for all time, I see a beauty, inside and out, And that beauty is sublime
