Desolation

Eyes watch longingly,

Flames burn hot.

Candle wax drips upon

Skin so cool.

Rain falls everlasting

Past numb fingers.

Curl upward, never holding,

Wet skin unthawed.

Ice core bittersweet,

Always watching,

Suffocating, air

Hard to breathe.

Life cruel, crawl along

Find the home,

The heart beating warm

A place not alone.

I do not know how to describe the setting of your poem, perhaps dejection is the closest thought to my mind. The scene is void of individuals, yet it is clear that someone is there for fingers to be numb and heart to beat. I think you have cut out the unnecessary articles and left your piece with the essential of poetry. Charming poem. Q.V.
