Destitute

It was there for the taking

An open tomb

In the night which seemed endless.

Never shall I forget the smoke

For one night? One single night?

No way to scream

No way to call for help

Words were choking me, paralyzing my lips.

Never shall I forget the flames

For the youth of today

And for the children of tomorrow

Condemned to live as long as God himself.

Never shall I forget for a moment

When I fled

Torn from a summer's sun

Into the darkness of night...
