Destroying Barriers
Some call us hermono o hermana.
A few call us mijo o mija.
Many call us amigo o amiga.
Many more see much less than that,
they only see us for the color of our skin.
Being held back as if our skin color were chains,
Our backyard a field,
Our tools of success are what you garden with.
By conforming to what is believed,
The field is the future then.
Being an ox that pulls the carriage and buggie,
Slaving away for what is not even our minimum wage.
Why this is already dreamt as our future?!
Yes, We are Latino y Latina,
but we're way more than that.
You can’t call us as if we were
un otro grupo de la barrio
who’s up to no good.
Proving this wrong is our drive.
Pride is the motivation.
And what is gonna get us there is our brain
We won't be stopped by our skin color,
for that instead will push us forward.
Un orto Latino y Latina slaving away on the field
is not what’s in stored for us anymore.
Standing on the podium debating,
Who will be the next leader of this free world,
That's the future we seek.
