The Devil's Advocate

They tell us what to be and who we should want to be

“But being you will not secure your success they just want the best for you”

They only tell the parts of history which we have “won”

“Well we won why let the loser tell his story. You want to learn how to be a winner right?”

They say not to bully yet they do themselves and with their power it is even worse

“Come on that is not bullying, that is preparing you for the future”

They teach not to be prejudice but lock their cars when you walk by

“If you saw you walk by wouldn’t you lock the car?”

They say be healthy and blame our families for the food we eat yet their food seems to be worse

“It’s a tough economy they can’t afford to give everyone healthy food it’s your parents’ jobs to do that”

They tell us to strive to be the best yet only teach us how to be mediocre

“That is what college is for, well if you make it to college”

Hypocrisy. Untruthfulness. Prejudice. Hatred. Passionless. Goalless. AMERICAN EDUCATION

My favorite part of the poem is when I say teachers see students walk by and lock their car.
