dhulka hooyo

white pearl

horn of africa

my motherland

fills with blue seas

and white sand

our parents were not pirates

but pioneers

this new world bustled differently

from the old one

their hardships and struggles

fuelled by all they left behind

nothing they had to give

fresh start, clean slate

the debris in the street

wars that were so destructive

were only a small ounce of motivation

the smiles lingered

and the hope stayed

until they overcame
