Diabetes
It isn’t by too much sugar
It isn’t caused by obesity
It isn’t caused by catching it from someone, it's not a choice
It isn’t just taking pills or insulin and magically feeling better
Diabetes is the 3 am blood sugar tests
Diabetes is the highs and lows of every single day
Diabetes is the moodiness, loneliness, tiredness
Diabetes is not having others understand you disease
It’s the countless bills, late nights, energy, the fight against your body
It’s contemplating what to eat every meal to hopefully take the perfect amount of insulin
It’s the shots, sensors, finger pokes that hurt
It’s worrying about not being able to wake up the next day
It’s a disease no one can see on the outside but love to judge
Diabetics take more than what most people could ever imagine
It brings strength
It brings knowledge
It brings maturity
It brings me a new insight to live every single day like it’s my last
So Diabetes, I don’t hate you or love you either
I wouldn’t trade you though
I have become who I am supposed to be
I have become a fighter, and I am going to fight until I win
