Diary of a Loud, Mad, Whitewashed Oreo Queen

Perception can be defined as a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something. African-American women, like myself, are often generalized as angry, loud, uneducated, and/or greedy. Growing up I made a vow to myself to live above the stereotype and shape my identity to my liking. I tried to shed this negative persona and acquiesce to the standard set by those around me, but now I was declared too proper, "whitewashed", an Oreo. I have lost my 'black card' and lived a life not sure where I fit in. Unfortunately, burying every unique part of my identity and being embarrassed by my culture was not enough to forge my own path. I was still seen as a ghetto black girl, and I still am, the only difference is now I am unapologetic and choose to live true to myself.
