Diary of a young colored girl

Who am I? like you'd really care to know

my voice is unheard and Im invisible to you

you only see what you want to see

a young black girl who lives in poverty

who doesnt have a place to sleep

but that just aint me

I stand tall on my own two feet

despite what you do or say to me

I'm gonna rise above your negative energy

you see me as just a thing

something you can own, but you dont

you cant own what you see cuz my body, my heart belong to me

and the one who I decide is worthy of all my hearts purities

you dont see my inner beauty

you just see something you wanna fuck

but you're out of luck

cuz I dont need no dumb ass smuck

coming in my universe fucking up the balance

you cant take what I wont give

and I dont need your negatives

flowing through the cosmos of my universe within

the entrance to my world closes where you try to come in with your impulsive head

sorry but you are not welcome between these legs

and you wont be allowed to force your way in

because my body is my temple, something sacred

Who am I?

I am the young colored girl growing up in a world that doesnt understand her

the shy girl who has so much to show the world but doesnt know how to put it into words

I am the young girl, afraid and insecure

afraid of facing the world that was created for her to fail

a world set up to funnel black men straight to jail

they say that we'll be dammed, but we're already in hell

my world is so frail

hanging in the balance of the choices I make

they're just watching me waiting for me to make a mistake

waiting for me to break, down

and show them I dont belong in their world

this young ignorant colored girl

thats how they see me, thats how they'll always see me

as an insignificant thing, a small piece of many

that they fear will take control of their world

but what gives them the right to control what I do

the creator gave us all free will to do what we want to

dont be a fool, someone always wants control

to make sure success barely comes for

a colored child living in the ghetto

wishing on a star for something better

Who am I?

I am the spirit of a strong black woman

who has been continuously torn down

no matter what she does, its not good enough for white america

only because they're afraid of what she is capable of

they fear her so they constantly degrade her

beat her, drag her out back and rape her

trying to break her, but she doesnt let it shake her

because every obstacle they throw at her, only makes her greater

let my potential loose to grow freely without limits

let the world embrace my brilliance without fearing it

but they cant, they cant handle my level of intellect

Ask me who I am

I am a strong, beautiful black woman

who isnt afraid to speak her mind, who doesnt like people who waste her time

is it a crime? that I want to be evaluated for my mind

but you dont want to give me the time of  day

you see me and look the other way

are you unconsciously racist? sexist? or are you just afraid?

does my brilliance surprise you?

does your hatred blind you from seeing that I am no different from you?

we may not look alike, but this is my world too

and I have the same rights to all the things you are able to do

but people can never see pass the color of my skin, this shell I was put in

they dont judge me for my intelligence

they only look at the outside, not what's within

is it a sin? they dont see it that way

the color of my skin is a curse I live with?

naw, I love the skin Im in

and besides, my skin does not determine what I do or who I am

So, who am I? ask me again

but this time dont be so quick to judge me because of the color of my skin

who am I? well by now dont you know

I am a strong, beautiful colored girl

just trying to make a name for herself in this world that is intimidated by her

she just wants to show her worth

she is a visualist

a dazzling individual

passionate about her beliefs

wants to be treated like the beautiful African queen she was meant to be

one day she will change the world

this bright little colored girl

and she will not be feared  anywhere

they will look at her and not care that her skin is darker than theirs

no one will dare tear her down

because the world understands her now

she will no longer be another face in the crowd

she will stand tall and proud and let her radiance shine

this fantastic child with an incredible mind

the color of her skin will no longer be the reason people stop and stare

it will be because they admire her and that she will always be remembered everywhere

because she would not let herself fail

through all the obstacles, she prevailed
