Different

Adoption.

When you think of this word you think of happiness, giving... Greatfulness.

I think of different.

I am adopted and so is my sister.

I am not always listening to K-Pop and Chinese music.

I am not some foreign chick who decides to be given free hand outs just because.. I'm not orignally from here.

I am not some small girl sitting alone in her kindergarten class because she is different than her classmates.

I am not some odd fetish to some men because their definition of foreign people are warped.

I am not automatically good at math and quite frankly, I am very bad at it.

I am not and do not have to be biologically related to my family to think of them as my family.

I am not the stereotypical type and do not work at a nail salon. My nails are awful as it already is. Not ready to work in one.

I am not obligated to tell you my journey over, and over again.

But what I am is something much more. I actually am different.

I'm that type you catch at three in the morning on skype talking about the series of anime we just watched.

I'm that girl who walks in with her family head held high at how special she is and am for having a hard working Mexican father and a colorful caucasian mother.

I'm a hard working citizen just like everyone else in this controversial country.

I'm wonderful at making friends and I do have quite the bunch.

I'm independent and a strong individual who ignores the awful stigma about my ethnicity.

I'm pretty awesome at english and biology.

I'm pursuing a career in nursing. Specifically becomnig a neonatal nurse.

I am different. My journey still has yet to continue, but I have made it this far already. I can make it even farther. I can still be different. I can still be proud.

Adoption.
