A Different Kind of Love

Never did I hear you say

‘I love you’

You made me hate myself

Made me self-conscious

All the time

A thousand eyes on me

A thousand eye on me

Watching me

Always

Telling me I wasn’t good enough

Telling me

I was too awkward

I was too shy

I was too tall

I was too different

Telling me

My laugh

Was wrong

Or too loud

My emotions

Were wrong

Or unreasonable

You made me want to hide myself

Because I didn’t look-right

Because my chest wasn’t big

Enough

Because my waist wasn’t small

Enough

Because my butt wasn’t nice

Enough

Enough, enough, enough

Enough of this

This

Was abuse

So instead I looked at you

I looked at

You

After so many years

Of you making me hate

Myself

I looked at you and I said

‘You are enough’

Finally

I heard you say it

Finally

I heard me say it

‘I love you’

Because I love you

You are enough

You are beautiful

Because I love you

You are not

Too awkward

You are not

Too shy

You are not

Too tall

You are not

Too different

Because I love you

Your body is

Beautiful

Your body is

Strong

Your body

Is perfect

Just the way it is

You

Are perfect

Just the way you are

Because I love

Me
