A Different Kind of Pain

As a child, my worst nightmare was breaking my favorite crayon

Losing my favorite toy

Missing my favorite show

As I grew up, my worst nightmare was losing a loved one

Seeing my parents get older

Having my heart torn into pieces

It was in the blink of an eye when I transitioned from one person to another

All of a sudden, these pains were not alike

Going from tears that last minutes

to tears that last years

As the tears ran longer

I knew things were getting harder

But one way or another, I was also getting stronger
