Dionysus

Pain pounded

in Dionysus’ head.

a constant thrum of pain

that woke him in

the morning

and put him to sleep

at night.

Many thought someone

so constantly drunk

had no time to be hungover.

they were wrong.

Pain pounded

In a 12 year old  Dionysus’

head

not from alcohol,

he would know that pain later.

but from sadness.

as he watched his father

slam the door

on the way out.

pain screamed

in 16 year old Dionysus’ head.

as he put a rose upon his mothers

casket.

Nothing pounded

in 18 year old Dionysus’ head

as he wrapped his hand

adound a bottle

of vodka.

for once

as he took

a

burning

sip

he heard

silence.

Drunken Headache

was better

than

sober heartache,

he supposed.
