The Direction of Tomorrow

I am an urn brimming with power.

This power is called life.

I do not know how this came to be.

My biology teacher says it began with my

            DNA.

My history teacher says it is because of

            Evolution.

My math teacher does not say anything.

My philosophy teacher says to believe

            Whatever I want.

My friends say someone named

            God created me.

What do I say? What do I say?

My birth put me on a train with the rest of the world

Everyone moving in the same direction: forward,

Everyone coming from the same place: the past,

For tomorrow is as elusive as yesterday.

All I need to know is

My power will deplete sometime in

The direction of tomorrow;

This power does not look at the past.

            Why should I?
