Dirt
Tonight I buried you deep within the ground,
Shoveled the dirt upon your memory without a sound.
On this night no tears were shed
As I laid what happened between us to rest.
The earth it was hard and the metal did not want to go in,
But I thrust forward and forced what was underneath to rise up.
Until the surface opened and before me was a hole.
And in it I threw what was given to me-
A drawing now ashes, trinkets now scorched,
Judgements, paranoia, untruths, and sentences without meaning
All bathed in salt.
Covered once again in dirt like an old country road.
Dead to me, in your grasp I am no longer held.
Buried below is not treasure, no emotional gold,
But a map toward my liberation, myself.
