Dirt
A good archaeologist will find dirt beneath her nails,
And she will smile because she did her job well.
A good archaeologist will rarely be clean,
And she will laugh out loud because the artifacts gleam.
A good archaeologist has knots in her hair,
And she will forget it because she doesn't care.
A good archaeologist has rumpled, torn clothes,
And she'll never notice because she loves what she does.
So if people look up and down at me
And dirt is all they choose to see
Then everything will be okay
Because I will finally be who I've wanted to be.
