dirty little secret

do you remember the fireworks

back then

when we hid behind purple walls

praying they wouldn’t see

the clouds of lavender smoke

that our passion

left behind

hiding this love in the backs of drawers

stuffing it into crowded front pockets

behind the boxes in the back of your closet

you kept my lips warm that autumn

my emptiness felt so full

you really were a magician

a beautiful mirage,

oh wasn’t it?
