Discovering Love

I. It started with a quick sharp glance Two bright eyes meet across a room They long to meet but have no chance No words are spoken but souls dance They finally meet, a fire lights Passion and desire fills up their hearts Their love begins to reach new heights Who knew that hearts could shine so bright? They are young but the love is old This strong feeling will never die It’s heating up the winter cold Taking on the world so brave and bold II. Time passes by and feelings fade Maybe love can’t stand the test of time How do you heal all the mistakes made? Faith protects like the tree giving shade They try to fix it but nothing works Why can’t they stop these seeping wounds? Love might be crazy but not berserk They must realize all of loves perks Maybe it’s time to just give in Is love really worth all the trouble? Harboring this much hate is a sin Emotions poured in a glass of gin III. At last they have the right answer The key to saving a dying love Hate was love’s destructive cancer Forgiveness, the god sent enhancer Now they know how love must survive It must be nurtured and cared for Like water to a flower it strives If they die, their love is alive

A piece I wrote for Creative Writing II class. Very close to my heart and very relatable. I love the rhyme scheme and format of the poem.
