Discovery
Alone… encased in a ball of darkness
Fueled by anger, disgust, and pain created by those around me.
Nowhere left to run, nowhere left to hide.
Do I strike them like a match? Sting them like a wandering bee?
Or just growl like an angry dog behind a chain link fence,
Staring down a twittering bird up the neighboring tree?
No. This isn’t me.
I’m strong, but not strong enough to fight…
Strong enough to growl, maybe,
But not enough to make a physical attack feel right.
Maybe I’ll just sit in the dark… alone…
Let the shadows dance as I complete my rite…
Wallow in the black pool of woe until I’ve had my fill…
That it was… until I noticed that light…
The light of blank white page…
No, it didn’t “save me,” in any kind of way.
But, I will admit it helped me cope…
A place out of the darkness to stay.
A place to let go of the anger, the pain, the disgust;
They all just kind of… went away.
I was content, for a while,
Long enough to reach a place of quiet and solitude;
But by then, I’d found somewhere within myself
To hide my dark and malicious attitude.
I named this place “My World”
(I was never good with names).
It’s the place where all my written works take form
Despite not one of them being the same.
On the page, I discovered it:
A place to go during emotional plight.
This place is my protection from the world and its cruelties…
THIS is why I write.
