Discovery

Welcome to your island,

Population… you.

Welcome to the world,

Now what exactly are you to do?

Now you have to decide

Your every step, your every move.

Only you can control

What you truly have to prove.

To yourself? To the world?

Are you even really alone?

For the people that got you here

Have already set the tone.

So we take on the ocean of life,

One stroke at a time.

But what happens when the stroke

Occurs in our mind?

The fear of death, of our parents,

Our friends, and our own.

The fear that death will walk in

And crush the world that we’ve known.

It wasn’t time, we weren’t ready,

We can’t accept that they're gone…

But from those that we’ve lost,

We learned the key to move on.

The keys that we gain,

Open the doors of experience.

Widening our view of the world,

Ourselves, and our existence.

With each door we learn,

About joy, pain and even love.

Its power floods our conscious,

Yet keeps us floating above.

Will it last? Will it burn?

Only time can surely tell…

One thing is for certain,

Our heart, it will swell.

But don’t we need to focus?

On school? On our goals?

Discovering the things in life

We want to make us whole?

But every door is part of it.

Part of the mystery, part of the game.

With every experience we discover

The truths of our name.

Funny how we go to school to learn

About the world, about life.

But somewhere along the line,

We learn about ourselves, our goal, and our strife.
