Discussion Between Ludwig van Beethoven and Stevie Wonder
Live alone in the realm of a man’s music,
in [his] art! Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes,
restricted though [man] be by [his] defective sense, this is still his art
[his] only existence, doesn’t lack in vision.
And not for yourself, not for your success,
only for others in your art are all senses necessary.
And you must not be a man like other men: ya gots to work with what you gots to work with.
I [hear] and I see
Nothing; I probably would not last a minute,
if I were able to hear things, if I were able to see things
the way they are, the way they truly are.
Such experiences would bring me to the verge of despair because handicaps are really to be used to benefit yourself.
Little more and I should have put an end to my life, my music,
but art alone, who's melodies sung me a new sense,
who’s sonatas’ crescendos vibrated instead of my ear drums, who’s chords glistened instead of my eyes,
deterred me, saved me.
