disgrace this taste

Shiny penny, shiny penny

Why must you mock me?

The copper taste left in my mouth

Dress ripped, hair matted.

Shiny penny, shiny penny

Why didn’t you help?

Stranger’s hands, uninvited

Take away my innocence.

Shiny penny, shiny penny

Help me be free

Free from the memories

And others’ judging stares.

Shiny penny, shiny penny

Why do you side with him?

Is it because he has more of you

Or because I requested this.

Shiny penny, shiny penny

I feel just as you do.

Left on the ground, discarded

Only used as a last resort.

Shiny penny, shiny penny

Yes I may have had one drink

But I screamed no

And received no reply.

Shiny penny, shiny penny

I must melt you down.

And fix myself a way out

Even as others cry.

Shiny penny, shiny penny

Can I tell you a secret?

As I hold you,

I am already gone.
