The Dive

    Standing on the edge

Taking the time to behold the sight

You see the waters glistening reflection of the   sun

Closing your eyes and holding your hands high over head

Taking only a second to take a deep breath

Then diving into the water

Instantly taken aback by the chilly temperature

Leaving everything behind for just this moment

Until the burning sensation in your chest takes its place

Then all you can think about is breathing

You look up to the trembling blue sky

And start swimming towards relief

Time slows and a slight panic comes to mind

At the thought that you might not make it

Just when you break free to the surface

And take a gasp of air and while catching your breath

Being grateful for every breath you breathe
