Do Not Lose Yourself In Love

do not lose yourself in love

remember your

broken heart is beating too

the same as hers

and it

is not worth less

remember you

do not owe her

the moon from your sky

the stars from your eyes

your everything

in every moment

this is not what love should be

to shatter your heart trying to keep hers whole

and it is not her fault

you know this already

she owes you nothing

you have already

told yourself a thousand times

that just because you

were fool enough

to set your heart

in her hands does not mean

she owes you it's safety

it is not her fault

but it is not yours either

there is nothing wrong

with dreaming of her lips

pressed like a promise

against yours

nothing wrong with how

you know her laugh

from across the room

have memorized

the color of her eyes

in the sunlight

no

you have not shattered

some sacred oath

in falling for her

but try to remember

when you are hooked

like a gutted fish

on the curve of her smile

try to remember

that you are here too

and that you cannot

breathe her in like oxygen

and call it living
