Do you believe in promises?
I grew up with a promise
Promise that was supposed to make me happy
My mother promised me that she would never let anyone hurt me
But like a broken mirror, that promise shattered
I tried grasping at the pieces,
promising myself that the tape and glue would hold everything together.
Funny how fate proved that like my mother, I couldn't hold my own
As I grew, thinking I was safe,
I met my “knight in shining armor” and I had let my guard down
but the promises that we fought so hard to create,
Was easily obliterated by unworthy excuses.
I tried to fight and to protect what I had with my knight
But I found myself willingly stabbing my own heart with those same promises.
And I lay helpless; Bleeding as a result to my own failure.
So here we are, with the question that I was asked,
“Do you believe in promises?”
And to which I answer,
“The day that a promise is kept, is the day that I’ll start to believe.
