Do You Have Kids?
If you want to know the truth,
it wasn't the big things.
Not moving out of my parents' house
or supporting myself financially.
None screamed, "You're a grown up" like you did.
It was just that one time
and it shouldn't mean much,
but I laughed.
I laughed, and then it all hit me
like a bad belly flop from the highest dive.
As I resurfaced, the pieces fit together
and you waited for the answer to your question,
"Do you have kids?"
I let years of growth wash over me...
I've learned to trust my instincts
I stand strong in the face of adversity
My time, body and space are valuable.
and choose not to share my time with those that are unkind.
You assumed, but I guess you were right.
I am a grown up.
But I'll always be a Toys R Us kid at heart.
