Do you really care
But do you really care?
That we are thrown away with the rest?
Given an identity only based on the color of our skin
Giving them an excuse based on the clothes we wear
Violence every night
Drugged up dad beat up mom
It’s hard to get by on the streets
More or less at home
Now we walk the streets only to be judged
We fear the police
only scared to see our friend’s blood
They murder, they blame, they judge and it’s all the same
The same excuse, the same shame
They thought they saw a weapon
They thought they were threatened
They were scared for their lives
Monstrous teenagers were after them
And you believe ‘em?
You trust them?
Trust what they say to be facts?
We are human too
Yet you fear us?
How are we any different?
Some of us do try and succeed
Some of us do try and believe
In dreams and in nightmares too
But it’s hard when your mom’s been shot
It’s hard when they label you
You feel that maybe the shoe does fit
But do you really care?
