The Dog Barks

The dog barks at the crunching of the gravel

Her ears perk up and her eyes go wide

The smell of freshly cut grass floats on the wind.

The soft crinkle of the plastic wrapped flowers

are heard from across the street.

The dog’s nails tap on the wooden floor

as she runs to the front, white metal door.

He crouches down to give her a rub and a kiss

She flops down on her belly for this,

and she gives him a big, sloppy, wet lick.

In the distance, the other dog barks.
