Dog bites are like breakups

Sometimes it’s expected and you see it coming

Other times it’s out the blue and takes you by surprise with little warning

By the long term companion or a random one off the street

Both hurt eminently

Even if it’s just for the moment

As it painfully sinks in

overwhelmed shock and disbelief

All leave some damage

From scratch to a scar

Leaving your trust a little broken

or a total fear

to approach love once again

But wipe the tears, my dear

As in time once again you’ll heal

And meet the one who becomes family
