Dog Left Behind

I don't know why you're not home yet. I'll wait for you, sit and wait for you by this flap in the door that won't open save for by your hand. How long has it been since your key turned in that lock? I'm hungry, but there's no point in stealing because when you get home you'll have everything I need. Can I lie down? I'm afraid my decay made an awful mess and I don't want to be awake when you get home and see the stains I've left in your white carpet. I don't know why you aren't home yet but I'll wait for you, sit and wait for you, until the both of us are nothing but puddles seeping into the creaking wooden floors.
