Don't Blink

She’s vulnerable,

she’s caught off guard.

You can see it in her eyes.

 

Look into her eyes,

stare into her daydreams.

She’s a child again.

 

Look into her eyes,

see the pain of her past.

All the lies she’s been told.

 

Look into her eyes,

and catch a glimpse of the tension.

Rising inside like a caged animal.

 

Look into her eyes,

watch them dart back and forth.

Drifting in confusion and anxiety.

 

Then, just as fast as it came,

she blinks,

and her eyes are cold again.
