Don't fall in love with a Poet.

don't fall in love with a poet

we will write of you

under the light of a thousand stars

we will hang you up on the moon

and tell the world about the glory of your touch
and about the butterflies that you created in our bodies
but we are a danger
for the beautiful words we write,
will never come from our mouths
and if you break our heart
we won't write books or songs
we'll use our hatred
and our sadness
and the fire of them both
to make knives of all the words you said
we will take the blood you spilled
and stain everything that is yours
to leave you with a reminder of what you did
do not fall in love with a poet
because once we are finished
the world will see the damage you can cause
the bruises left on lips
the tear stained cheeks
and the scars your words left
do not fall in love with someone who will stay quiet when you yell
only to scream back in our words
we might seem timid and small
but we throw punches without even moving
and those will hurt more than any fist
and you'll be left to feel the pain we felt
do not fall in love with a poet
for the spilled ink on the page
will only ignite the fire in our lungs
and the words will become harsher, more bitter
so never ever fall in love with a poet,
never fall in love with me
