Don't Hide Anymore

Perfect complexion

Without expression

Desperate for likes

Fearing rejection

Create an illusion

In search for inclusion

Craving approval

Fearing exclusion

Without a filter, I’m me

The only way I want to be

Unafraid to expose

All my flawed qualities

I am the way that I came

Uninterested in the game

Of hiding behind a screen

Of making everybody look the same

I am vibrant and loud

Kind, strong, and proud

Adding a filter would only

Make me blend with the crowd

With all the colors you saturate

And features you exaggerate

You sacrifice the beauty

In what is real, true, and accurate

It’s the filter that keeps

A generation from seeing

That we post on our phones

When we feel alone

Don’t hide anymore

Step outside of the door

Look around you’ll wonder

What the filter is for
