Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover

People say “don’t judge a book by its cover” but the cover of a book is the first thing you see

When people see me they see my cover

5’8 teenage black girl

Brown eyes, full lips, black hair

My cover… well my cover comes with many stereotypes

These stereotypes have been forced upon my very being since the day I was born

And it’s too bad

It’s too bad that my cover is all that matters

But I can’t dwell on this fact because I can’t change my cover

People will just move on

Move on to the next book

They will just miss out on a good read
