Don't Let Color Define Them

Open a book

And take a look

On the words you see on the page

The pages white with black print

Gves a little hint

About the racism we can stll find

Have you ever noticed we think in color?

We write in color too

Because the hero never has a color

But if they meet someone darker

Or different from them

You see the slurs screamed on the pages

I have yet to see someone being described as "white,"

But if they are "black," "native american," or "mexican,"

The author makes sure the reader will know

And that is insane

In 2015

I expect better things from the world

Than to be living in the shrouds of a society that still sees in color

I want the white described equally as the blacks

Color should define no one

Let their actions define them

And let their stories continue

As equals in the new year
