Don't Take Them For Granted

Even though it was no secret,
It still came as quite the surprise.
Seeing her body there lifeless was something I had pictured a hundred times.
Like all of those nightmares, it had come true.
My mother's lips had turned blue.
Her chest no longer moved up and down inhaling and exhaling.
Her once very vibrant smile was now just a hard line.
All of the things I knew of her had gone.
She wasn't there. So where was she?
Free. She was free.
