Don't Tell Me What To Do

Wear a dress

Don’t be so weird

Wax everywhere

Get a boyfriend

Go get drunk

Clean your room

Do your hair

Apply to college

Get good grades

Use less sarcasm

Just Stop

I don’t need to be told

what to do

where to go

how to act

HOW TO LIVE

I’m my own person

I don’t care that my frizzy hair

goes absolutely everywhere

or that people don’t like how I talk

or that I say what no one else will

I like jeans

and Doctor Who fanfiction

Maybe I want bushy eyebrows

or if I wanted a partner, I would’ve come out

Dad’s an alcoholic, I’ll never touch a beer

I prefer “organized mess”

and I’d rather do calculus than my hair

Maybe I want to join the Navy

or I’m struggling just to pass the class

Sarcasm? Who uses sarcasm? Not me

I’m never going to be that perfect girl

no Barbie or American Girl Doll here

I’m no imitation or reproduction

because I have something they don’t

My Individuality

I’m a feminist

I hate bacon

I’ll listen to any kind of music

I’m pretty good at keeping secrets

And I won’t stop until I get what I want

That’s what makes me, me

and I think I’m damn near perfect

So, stop telling me what to do

I’m going to be just fine

You’ll see.
